Miami in B&W

Black and white are the colors of photography. To me they symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected.

Light is meaningful only in relation to darkness, and truth presupposes error. It is these mingled opposites which people our life, which make it pungent, intoxicating. We only exist in terms of this conflict, in the zone where black and white clash.

Things are not quite so simple always as black and white.

Weekly Inspiration l 2-20-15

Weekly InspirationI’m still holding on to the warmth of the beach. If I close my eyes and hold my blowdryer up to my face I can still imagine Miami.  Unfortunately, I eventually have to open my eyes and realize that there’s snow on the ground. Oh well, today’s inspiration is my attempt to hold onto the warmth of the beach and the vibrance of life in Miami for as long as possible. Join me won’t you?

Perspective

perspective ocean

No summer is complete in my book until a trip (or several) to the ocean have taken place.  There are few things I love more than digging my feet in the sand and the smell of the salty sea air.  I could (and did) spend hours staring at the crashing waves and the bright blue skies.  There’s something incredibly calming and healing about it.

I think the thing is that the ocean gives me perspective. It reminds me that it is big and I am small. It reminds me that even though my circumstances can seem huge and overwhelming at times there’s a God who is soooo much bigger.  Most of all, it reminds me that I can trust him.  No matter what the future holds and no matter what remains unknown, I do know that He is in control.

“You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand”

Happy Place

the ocean is calling

I’m headed to my favorite place for the next week.  I’m looking forward to endless hours of sun, sand and blue water.  I’m planning on taking lots of deep breaths, jumping in lots of waves and taking a lot of naps.  Something about the fresh ocean air and warm sunshine always helps me remember what’s important in life.  I’ll be checking in on here periodically but feel free to follow along on my adventures on instagram.

Weekly Inspiration l 06-13-14

Weekly InspirationThe humidity has hit in DC and it really feels like summer around here.  As a result, I find myself longing for the ocean and desperately searching my calendar for when I can plan a beach getaway.  I even catch myself daydreaming about surfing the aqua blue waves (obviously completely forgetting that I have no idea how to surf whatsoever).  So while I can’t run away to the beach today, I thought I’d share a dose of beachy goodness to tide me over.

p.s. Sorry to all the subscribers who got a sneak peek of today’s post on Wednesday. Apparently  you take a day or two off of blogging and you completely forget how it’s done.  Oops. 🙂

Dominican Republic

As I mentioned previously, I’ve been traveling for the past few weeks in Latin America.  It was an incredible, whirlwind of a trip to say the least.  I thought in lieu of sharing a weekend sneak peek today I would share with you some of the photo highlights from my travels… without further ado, here’s part one… the Dominican Republic

I spent just about a week in the Dominican Republic and my time was filled with… tropical sunshine… warm breezes…the beach… meetings (but that’s not exciting to talk about)… Spanish guitar… bougainvillea… incredible architecture… rich history… beautiful children… brilliant colors…  yummy food… the ocean…salsa music… most of all, I was privileged to meet many truly inspiring people who are working tirelessly to improve their communities and the lives of the people around them.

WSP: Wave & Warehouses

WSP Banner3

I spent a few days at the beach last week,  so I’m going to cheat a bit and include photos from my adventures in VA Beach on this WSP as well.   I went down with a bunch of people from my church to attend Wave Conference 2013 and as always, it was awesome! The messages were incredible, the beach was beautiful and the memories fun.  The last few days were filled with… late night laughs at Max & Erma’s (and hot chocolate chip cookies)… Aerosmith… embarrassingly being caught dancing/singing in the car by myself… traaaaaaafiiiic (nothing like I-95 on the weekend)… outlet shopping and one little girl who clearly has superior modeling skills… Leroy LEroy… swimming in the ocean… sunshine & sand… National Geographic’s “The Serengeti Lion”The Red Apron… impromptu photoshoot between the warehouses (because why not)… Union Market… late night chats… the ANTM shocker (guys.. I mean really?!?!)… catching up with friends… yellow sneakers… awesome new developments with the BeautifulYou blog (more details to come soon!).

Hope your weekend was just as rewarding!
