Hey there!

I’ve been toying with this idea for awhile, but I think the time has come for a bit of a new direction and design for this site. I’ve loved the journey thus far but I’m excited to start reading the next chapter. I’ve made new friends, discovered things about myself and come across beauty I’d have otherwise missed if it wasn’t for the discipline of blogging. That being said, I’ve been having so much fun dreaming up ideas for what’s next on lovealwayshannah.com and I can’t wait to share it with each of you. I don’t take it lightly that you follow along on this journey with me. From the bottom of my heart,

This is by NO WAY a goodbye. It’s just simply a see you in a little bit! It’s going to take some work to re-design and re-focus the site.  In the meantime, if you haven’t done so already pretty please come follow along on Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook. I’ve got some travel, fun events and other craziness coming up in the next few weeks and I’m sure I’ll be updating on those sites as I go.

Can’t wait to show you the fun things in store! Stay tuned!

See you soon!

Love Always Hannah Blog Tour

One of my besties, Ella, from StartCloseIn Styling nominated me to take a fun little tour through blogland with you all this week.  Before we start though, I have to take a minute and gush about her…

(we always like to traipse around the woods with random props… what do you do with your free time?)

She’s amazing! Like, for reals.  We met ions ago when we were both studying abroad in Spain (so exotic, right?).  We quickly bonded over our love for makeup and accessories, our shared New England heritage and our joint distaste for plaid flannel (which we both now seem to love again).  While we both had our own separate adventures in the subsequent years, we picked up right where we left off when she moved to DC just a few years ago.  It’s like we were never apart.

Ella is truly a wonderful friend. She’s thoughtful, insightful, loving, compassionate, fun, creative and inspiring ( just to name a few things). Every day I’m grateful to have her in my world.

Ella & I

I swore this photo from behind-the-scenes at our last photoshoot would never see the light of day, but it’s just too indicative of our friendship for me not to post. (I swear I don’t ALWAYS look that crazy… just sometimes)

Actually, the times I don’t look this crazy are largely in part because of her help.  She’s a wonderful personal stylist and has gone through my closet on a number of occasions.  Seriously, she’s pretty awesome at it. You should check her out.

Anyways, as part of the tour, I’m supposed to answer questions…

1. What am I working on?

If you’ve been around here for longer than a minute you’ll know that I’m in the process of re-launching my business, Piccadilly. (New website coming next week.. yikes!) Piccadilly is a Washington, D.C. based boutique firm specializing in event styling & coordination; prop & product styling & creative consulting.

Our mission is to bring fun and sparkle to every creative venture by providing unforgettable customer service, connection to cause and by #crushingit consistently.

As you can imagine this has been quite a project and I’m beyond thrilled to be sharing it with you all soon! Stay tuned. In the meantime, take a second and go like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter and Instagram. Pretty please with gumdrops on top 🙂

2. How does my work differ from others of its genre?

Wow! This is such a good question and probably a bit difficult to answer.  Perhaps, instead I can just share a bit about my motivation for Piccadilly, for writing this blog and just about anything else that I do.

You see I believe that one of the biggest needs in society today is for us as individuals to understand our value.  First, because I truly believe that everyone matters and should know their inherent worth but secondly it’s when we fail to recognize our value that we fail to act.  Let me explain.  I think that each person walking the face of the earth has something in their hand to give.  The problem is if we don’t understand our value and we dismiss what we have to offer, we never do our part.  We will never stand up to fight human trafficking.  We will never try to solve the curse of poverty or homelessness or any other issue that we might be facing.  When we don’t value ourselves first, we in turn can’t truly help those around us.  However, if we’re each faithful with what we have in our hand, I believe we truly can change the world.

That is the underlying belief under everything that I do.  Whether its writing a post on this blog or planning an event with Piccadilly, my ultimate goal is that YOU understand how incredibly amazing and valuable you are.

3. Why do I write/create what I do?

For the exact reason, I stated above.  I want you to know that you matter.

I started this blog specifically because I have little sisters.  I looked around and saw that so much of what is targeted to young women these days has the underlying message that says in order to be enough, you must buy this, do this, watch this… pardon me, but I think that’s crap.  I wanted them to know from a very early age that beauty comes in a million different shapes and sizes.  It is not simply defined by how you look and your worth in this world does not come from what others think of you.

I wanted to create a space that could talk about fun, girly things but also leave you knowing that at the end of the day, you don’t need a single extra thing in order to matter. You matter. Just as you are.

4. How does your writing/ creating process work?

Well, usually I write late at night and then I dream about naps for most of the following day.  As much as I’d like to be an early morning person, it never quite happens. Often times as I go about my day, I will have an idea for a post so I keep a running list of ideas on my phone.  Usually then it will take me a few days to formulate what I want to say… but ultimately, it just comes to sitting down (usually pretty late) and writing.  There’s no special formula to it. You just have to do it.

With that, I’m excited to introduce my wonderful friend Courtney of Eat, Pray, Run DC.

She’s an amazing local blogger who writes about… you guessed it… running.  I have to be honest and say that the last time I ran was because I thought I was being chased and it wasn’t pretty BUT I love Courtney and I love reading her blog.  She’s so inspiring and will help you discover your inner runner… mine is still hiding, but it’s only a matter of time before I find her.

courtney running

Courtney is currently training for the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon coming up this weekend. She’s such a rockstar.  You can read more about her prep here.  I may just have to follow her around with signs one of these days.

Courtney bride

Another fun fact, is that I (and Piccadilly) had the privilege of working with Courtney at her recent wedding to her very own prince charming, Kwame.

kwameTheir wedding was so beautiful and such a blast.  I want to invite their families to every wedding I go to. They know how to get down on the dance floor and have a good time.

How cute were these running related details that she worked into her special day?

With that, I will let Courtney take it from here.  Thanks for stopping by from Ella’s blog and I hope you enjoy what you find on Courtney’s!

Looking Forward

As this first #blogiversary week draws to a close I wanted to share a few exciting things with you.  I’m so incredibly relieved and honestly really proud of myself for meeting my goal.  I’m also tired. Can I take a nap, please? Posting five times a week takes time and usually that time happens in the middle of the night.  It’s not to say that it hasn’t been worth it, it totally has been, but I’m excited for some changes moving forward.

Namely, you may notice that I may not be posting quite as often over the summer months.

Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.

I’m just feeling the call to transfer some of the discipline that I have developed over this past year into some other areas of my life.  I proved to myself that I can do it in this area, now I’m working to transfer that skill elsewhere.  I have some other exciting projects I’m working on (I can’t wait to tell you all about them!) AND I’ve been feeling the need to rest.  That can almost seem like a dirty word in our super busy society, but I wholeheartedly believe in it’s importance.  That being said, I’m committing over the summer to focus on taking time to enjoy the moments…to laugh at the jokes…to have long chats on the porch…to lay in the sunshine… fall asleep in the hammock…read a book (or at least finish one)… make new friends and celebrate old ones… and, to really revel in the amazing adventure that is life.

make some memories

So while I may not be posting quite as often (I’m aiming for 2-3x a week instead of 5x), you can rest assured that I’m not going to lose momentum.  I’m more focused than ever.  I have more ideas than ever.  I’m also more excited than ever because I can see the amazing things that are in store.

I hope you’ll come along with me on this journey.  I really do believe the BEST is yet to come!

Signaturep.s. I’m also going to be taking into account your feedback from the survey here as I plan ahead for the next few months.

Hey there!

So one of the reasons I started writing a blog is because I love reading blogs.  I thought it might be fun to highlight a few of my favorite reads today on my blog.  Each of these people are committed to seeing you live your best life.  Every time I read their blogs I’m struck by their thoughtfulness and inspired to go for it in my own life. I highly recommend you head on over to these sites and check them out!

Eileen Wilder – My beautiful friend Eileen just launched her blog and each of her posts is centered on you understanding your incredible worth AND living your absolute best life. On top of that she’s just launched her super awesome GLAMthoughts a “shot of truth-latte to get your mind straight & you feeling great.”  Sign up here AND if you do before tomorrow, you can email her and she’ll design your very own quote or verse for you!

FabulouslyFrugalGal – The ultimate fabulous gal, Yanny, just launched her new blog THIS WEEK! If you haven’t done so already run over and check it out.  She’s sharing great tips on finding products that work best for you and don’t break the bank. It’s like shopping! Check it.

Ice Ice Andrew – This guy is awesome. On top of that, he and his wife just had twins.  You read that right, twins.  His blog constantly makes me laugh, makes me think and leaves me totally encouraged.  If you want some of that for yourself AND you want to hear about some of the cutest kids around, go check out his blog. now.

A Different Story – Caroline is one of the most thoughtful and thought-provoking writers I know.  Her unique perspective always makes me look at the world around me just a bit differently.  I loved this post she shared earlier this week in the midst of our one millionth snow storm in DC.

Start Close In – Undoubtedly a celebrity on my blog, this girl has STYLE.  On top of that Ella’s got a fresh perspective for YOU on your style.  I love reading anything she writes and love being around her (and playing) even more.  Want to give your closet a facelift? Check out her site!

Doehle Bread – She’s famous. Literally. Undoubtedly one day I will tell people I knew her when.  Not only is Jessica a bombshell but she’s an incredibly thoughtful writer and friend. I love the guest post she wrote recently for one of my favorite magazines, Darling.  Follow her blog for hilarious and thoughtful musings on life in NYC and where to find the best chocolate chip cookies in the world.

These are by no means the only blogs I read (it’s quite an addiction actually), but I thought today at least you should start by joining the party going on over on their sites.  Enjoy!

Did I do that?

This is my “uh-oh” face…

Actually, it’s not.  It’s one of the most adorable babies I’ve ever seen and the picture was part of Pioneer Woman’s Funny Face competition.  My favorite so far! (Photo Credit)

You get the picture though. Has it really been this long since I posted?   Apparently so.  The calendar does not lie, or so I’ve been told.

Anyways, I’m back (like Backstreet) and I’m here to par-tay!  I’ve been traveling… living in a whirlwind… running around like a chicken (I refuse to say anything about heads being chopped of… that’s gross!)… you know the story… but I’ve got lots of fun stuff to share, so stay posted!

Thirty before 30: Blog Reader

I’m back with an update on my Thirty before 30 plan aka everything I want to do before I become Thirty, Flirty and Thriving

As I posted about here… I like lists…. I should probably be a part of a 12 step program about lists… but really… I don’t wanna.

Back to the subject at hand…. Today I get to do one of my favorite things…  cross something off my list!

Item # 30 : Clean out my Blog Reader

A blog reader is like your virtual closet and I’m ashamed to say that there’s been a pile of shoes in the middle, scarves hanging from the ceiling and I’ve been throwing my clean laundry on the floor. (oh wait… that’s my actual closet… yikes… MOM! Stop reading!)

I LOVE Blogs.  Really I do.  In my book, they’re better than magazines and even slightly better than reality TV (and that’s saying a LOT coming from me!) Move over Housewives!  I’ve spent the last several years discovering a plethora (homeschooling word of the day) of blogs that both inspire and entertain me on a daily basis.

That being said… I’ve never actually organized my reader.  What does that leave me with… something that looks like this…

326 SUBSCRIPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!  YIKES!!!!!!!!!!  Needless to say, something had to be done!

I’m happy to report that I have conquered the beast of the blog reader!

Look at all those organized folders!  I’m so proud of myself!

All my faves are still there!

Pioneer Woman (of course!)

Young House Love ( I like to think I’m handy too… I’m not!)

Green Wedding Shoes (too much inspiration to handle!)

Stuff Christians Like (too funny!)

Made By Girl ( So many fun prints and design inspiration)

So maybe you don’t get as excited about organization as I do.  Maybe you don’t color code your closet either… wait how’d I get from piles of clothes to color coded… it’s a crazy world in there… really…. wait MOM! why are you still reading this…

I’m celebrating the small successes…. One down twenty nine to go!

Professional Help

As you’ll discover if you read this blog for any period of time…. I need professional help.

This go around it was because, try as I might, I couldn’t seem to get myself in front of a computer and write anything.  A fact that my mother brought me to task over.  (Yeah!  Someone actually reads this. ” Hi Mom!”)

This weekend it reached epic proportions and there was in fact professional intervention.  I went to the National Book Fair on the Mall, not because I love to read.  Sheesh! Don’t let that rumor get out.  No, I woke up on a Saturday morning because I LOVE Pioneer Woman (thepioneerwoman.com)  Seriously, if you’re not already reading her blog… you should!   Her tales of the prairies, punks and calf nuts are riveting.

Anyways, I loved hearing her speak. She was so inspirational.  In fact, I even got over my shyness (it comes and goes) and asked her a question about how to maintain consistency when posting.  You know what she said… so powerful… “Just Do It!!”

Now where have I heard that before?

All that to say, I’m back and I love Pioneer Woman!  She’s absolutely gorgeous and wonderful in person.  I’m still smiling and star struck!

Friday Fave: Made by Girl Love Print

I’ve begun to notice a trend with my blogging… you  know in all three of my posts… I seem to talk about shopping, shoes and cupcakes a lot… That’s probably something I should discuss with my shrink… but in the meantime I thought I’d continue the trend.

Here’s something that I’ve come across in my internet “travels” that I would consider a fave.

Jen from the popular design blog ” Made by Girl” has a shop were she sells a number of  her prints.  I LOVE this one (yes, I know I’m corny).  We have the Lemon yellow one in our apartment.  It’s so fun and simple.  It adds a great burst of color to the room.

Check out her shop here. She just added some new colors of this print. So fun!

Have a great weekend!

Side Hugs and other Stuff that Christians Like

So… I love blogs… I read a lot of blogs… you should see my reader… It’s an addiction…I need help….I’ve decided to highlight some of my favorite blogs here… really, I just want you to join the addiction…I don’t want help.

Numero Uno: Stuff Christians Like

The brain child of Jon Acuff is HILARIOUS.  Totally unreligious and sarcastic, it never ceases to mess with my world view.  He takes a look at some of the things the “christian culture” in the US has come to accept as norm.  All the while, challenging us to look at what it would truly mean to be a Jesus follower and not just a card carrying member of the “christian culuture”.  I love it!

Here’s a snippet from one of my favorite posts:

#106 The side hug

Yes, God wants us to be compassionate and kind and tender with each other. Not only that, but he wants us to love our enemies and serve our neighbors. As long as there is no body on body action. I’m talking of course about a “full frontal hug,” one of those sinful abominations where you just wrap your arms around a friend and embrace them. That’s why Christians the world over have pioneered the “side hug.”

Read the rest here.

Get this… My roommate got her very own side hug today.  She’s at the Echo Conference in Dallas(yes, I realize we might be something of conference groupies..what?!?!)

I’m so jealous.

P.S. He has a new book out by the same name.  You can purchase it here.
