The Canals of Amsterdam

While I’m busy by the pool today, I thought I’d share a few more pictures from my trip to Amsterdam. I’ve really never experienced anything like the canals there. There’s something very magical about them. As they wind their way through the city they seem to transport you back time. Each canal a thread in the beautiful tapestry of the city’s history. It’s easy to imagine the times gone by. That’s one thing I particularly love about Europe. There’s an unspoken connection to the past. It’s enchanting and strangely grounding at the same time.

What’s more, the canals represent to me the innovation and unsinkable spirit of those unwilling to be overcome by daunting circumstances. The sea itself, a formidable foe, could have sunk the city and yet it’s inhabitants chose to use their obstacle to their advantage, channeling the sea into a means of survival instead of defeat.

It makes me think differently about whatever I might be facing. [ I mean generally in
life and not the pool today. The pool is nice :-)]
